Apologies

I have been far too busy and far too fabulous lately, which has impeded on livejournal-writing.  I've just had the best weekend ever, which has made me SO happy!  Will write about my crazy antics when I'm not about to fall asleep!

But because I can't break my own tradition (or law, as it now is), here's a quickie 5:

5 people I'm completely in love with right this moment:

1. John, of course, he is number one and always will be

2. Jason - for finding me on Facebook, and then coming to London to visit me and being the instigator for the BWE (best weekend ever, it is now an official holiday)

3. Tom - for actually taking me seriously and actually booking a flight to London on Sunday after I e-mailed him jokingly suggesting he come hang out with me and Jason in London on Saturday.  Yes, he planned an international trip and took the time off work in about a total of 3 days.  SO impressive, and so worth it.

4. Whoever stocks dvds at HMV because I FINALLY, FINALLY found Empire Records!!! (and it was only £3!)  I can never find that movie, not in the US or here and its one of my favorites.  It reminds me of being 15, sitting in my living room at 2am with my best friend Karyn, painting our nails a million different colors and talking about how, when we got our own apartment together, we would glue quarters to the floor just like AJ did... such good times

5. Marian Keyes for writing another book.  I'm a little bit obsessed with her.

Not intellectual

Its interesting, I thought - and in fact, intended - to have lots and lots of deep, profound and intriguing things to write about and I thought I would get so much done today.  I was wrong on both accounts.

John started his new job today, and he works from 5pm - 10pm and had to go in early today.  So in my mind I had a list of everything I was going to do:  watch Countdown at 3:30pm (don't judge, I love it), do some writing (novel-wise), clean, take a really really long bath and make dinner.

It's nearly 9pm.  I watched Countdown.  And that's it for that list of things to accomplish.  What have I done instead?  Watched tv.  Checked my e-mail.  Played "Who Has the Biggest Brain" on Facebook (I did beat my highest score, so that's something!), took a typing test (and found out I can type 84 words a minute, not bad), scoured Youtube for karaoke and sang my little heart out (thank you, I did rock Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" and all of Kelly Clarkson's songs and James Morrison's "You Give Me Something" pretty damn hard).  I guess the moral of the story is best laid plans and all that...

Hey, I'll get around to dinner at some point.

The good news is I feel really relaxed and chilled which is good, considering the bit of hectic-ness I encountered over the weekend.

And so, because I'm not in an intellectual mood and don't feel like thinking much, today's list of five is aimed more for the ladies...

5 beauty products I worship:

1.  Rimmel Glam Eyes mascara:  I bought this mascara about a month ago and I am addicted.  Normally, I use 2 or 3 mascaras every morning (at least) to achieve long, full lashes.  I only need this one when I use it, its severely amazing (and ridiculously affordable).  The brush is amazing - take my word for it and buy it!

2.  MAC concealer:  I love this concealer!  I bought it before coming to England last April and, a year on (and using it every day), I've barely made a dent in its amount.  Its like magic!  Some magazine once stupidly instructed to use concealer after foundation and this could not be more wrong!  Use it before to cover up dark circles, blemishes, anything and then even out with foundation and its perfect.  So yes, MAC concealer, you get an A+ from me!  (All MAC products are amazing to be honest.  Another fond one for me is lipglass in Pink Poodle.  People would stop me to ask what lipgloss I was wearing.  Amazing)

3.  Palmers Coco Butter:  Ok so I'm obsessed with this stuff.  Some magazine had included a free sample and I became hooked -- it smells unbelievably incredible and its the best moisturizer I've ever used.  I even use it on my face, its perfection.  Oh, and I got a free lip balm with it as well which is also fantastic.

4.  I can't remember the exact name of it, but its the mineral blush by L'oreal.  Again, I've had this over a year and use it every day and its not even half gone, and it gives the most perfect, healthy glow without being too heavy (and blush can so easily look horrible if its too heavy).  I actually got it free with the purchase of a foundation (I think it was $12 or $13) and would definitely pay that for it again.

5.  Miss Dior Cherie perfume.  I am almost out and will cry when I am, its the most perfect, me fragrance ever.

I'm a bit of a makeup/product whore so if anyone has some fabulous product tips, please share!

Nights out and lists of 5...

"Cause I'm always where I need to be/ And I always thought I would end up with you eventually" -- The Kooks

It really has been a tiring week, which seems kind of weird because I don't feel like I've done all that much!  I've been working more hours than I normally do, which is probably all it is, but every night I have great intentions of live-journaling, writing (I'm trying to write a novel), and e-mailing everyone that I need to e-mail but my eyes refuse to stay open!  So, despite the fact I'm a little tired at the moment (and need to be up early to help out with the publicity for Teechers), I've had an awesome night and feel like sharing my wisdom with the world.  Or just myself, which is more likely.  (DisclaimerI drank a pitcher of Malibu Melon cocktail tonight at Yates, by myself, in about 20 minutes, so this might not make a hell of a lot of sense!)

So yeah, tonight was fantastic!  Emma, John and I had some dinner (and I had some cocktail!) at Yates and then we met up with Paul and his girlfriend and went to see "21" (which was really, really, really good!!)  and even though that seems like a simple, not-too-special thing it was ridiculously fun!  Emma and I laughed our asses off at an assortment of things throughout the evening and really, I just have the best friends in the world, so it was such a good time.  I am in a wonderful mood and feeling great, which is always nice.

Ok, now, I've decided my "thing" (web-journal wise)is going to be fun lists of 5...much like my last posting!  But with different themes each time.  Why?  I don't know, but its fun!  And today's theme is....(drum roll please)

5 awesome things that happened today (no matter how trivial):

1.  I had an absolutely perfect latte, which is difficult because as I worked at Starbucks for 5 years, I'm incredibly picky and can rarely find someone in the UK who can make a good one, even though Starbucks is global and technically supposed to be the same as in the US.  Coffee of any nature is usually a great thing and always makes me happy, but when its made perfectly, I'm even happier!  (Hey, I warned you these might be trivial!)

2.  Have I mentioned the pitcher of Malibu Melon that I had all to myself?  For all of you wondering how to make the fabulous concoction yourselves (trust me, you want to!) its midori (my favorite thing in the WORLD), malibu and cranberry juice.  BLISS!

3.  Having a WONDERFUL time out with my friends, getting to chat with Emma outside of work and seeing Paul for the first time since February!

4.  Collapsing into fits of giggles as Emma and I whispered "Hesky! Hesky!" to each other all through the film.

5.  Sleeping in (which was heaven!!!) and only getting woken up because the immigration specialist from globalvisas.com called to help John and I sort out his visa, which is a good way to wake up (plus he was really nice!)

Now, if anyone is actually reading this, what are 5 awesome things that happened to you today?

An introduction to me

"Today we are beginning to notice that the new media are not just mechanical gimmicks for creating worlds of illusion, but new languages with new and unique powers of expression." -- Marshall McLuhan

For some reason, I am fascinated by blogs.  I love them.  I can spend hours and hours reading about the lives of people I don't know and never will.  I find the topics people write about and how they write them and the style of their writing so interesting... its like an insight that they are welcoming but are unaware of.  I've always wanted to keep a blog of my very own and have tried in the past, however reading them back now causes me so much embarrassment (sometimes, its NOT good to remember what you were like at certain points in your life...) but I'm hoping this current effort won't be so cringe-worthy.

So, for the past few days I've been feeling really low.  There's nothing really to be low about, but none the less I've been waking up and not feeling like getting out of bed - everything is seeming like a chore or too much effort.  I hate those kinds of feelings - I get them now and then and while I don't think its as serious as depression, it still sucks.  I think its just because things are in a bit of transition right now... the term has finished so I don't have anything school-related to do, the show just finished a week ago and so I'm not running around like a crazy person trying to get things done for that... I think now that I've caught up on the sleep I was deprived of and have relaxed I've become a bit bored!  Hopefully, this web journal thing will help!  Also, I've wanted to (try to) write a book for, like, a million years now and I'm really determined to give it a shot.  I honestly don't expect anything to come of it, its just something for me really but if anyone is interested in giving me an opinion let me know!

Its weird - one thing that always makes me feel better is watching a DVD I've seen about a billion times.  There's something comforting about a movie or tv show you've watched again and again (so much so that you know all the lines or don't even have to look at the screen because you know exactly what's going on).  It's like being with an old friend who you know better than you know yourself.  This must sound completely geeky, but it really is comforting.  I've always done this, to be honest, watched certain things again and again.  Its not even just that I know how it'll end - because there are movies or shows that "get me" every time I watch them, even knowing what is going to happen!  Right now, I'm watching "My So-Called Life" which I absolutely adore and always will.  It reminds me of being in high school and just makes me feel really good.  So already, things are improving.

And now, to round out my first entry and to steal from my very favorite blogger of all time, Jen Lancaster, here are 5 random/weird facts about me:

1. I love Chinese food but I hate eating it in restaurants.  I have to eat Chinese food at home - it doesn't taste right any other way.  Now and then, a buffet will be okay but for some reason its only really, really good when eaten from home.  Preferably in front of the tv with something good on, but that's not integral to the taste.  Same issue with diet coke from a bottle.  Its perfect from a can and its great from a 2 litre bottle when you pour it into a glass, but from the 20 oz bottles?  Not so delicious.  And I have no idea why!

2. I want this shoe more than you could possibly imagine.  I am literally having dreams about them.  And yes, I have them on hold at work and will be purchasing them as soon as I have enough money to do so, which I am praying is soon!  And I never thought I'd want a yellow shoe so badly in my life...

3. I have the best friends in the whole world.  It amazes me how great they are.  One of the best friends I've ever had is Jackie and we are getting matching friendship tattoos when I move back to the US this summer (we're each getting a star on our hip!)  AND I finally got to catch up with her on AIM the other night and discuss some very important, secret matters which makes me happy every time I think about it!

4. It drives me mental, and I mean MENTAL that everyone...every single person I've met in the UK thinks there are 52 states.  What's more, they think I'M WRONG when I point out that there are only 50.  So I ask them what they think the 2 most recent states are and they ALL say "Hawaii and Alaska".  I mean seriously, is their schooling teaching them this?  I then, in turn, point out that we have 50 states (count the stars on our flag!).  They still think I'm wrong.  This discussion will go on for 20 minutes until they believe me and in more than one case I've had to refer them to Google or a map or common sense.  It seriously makes me crazy though because they ALL think it... its not just one or two people.  If someone could shed some light on this phenomenon for me I would be most appreciative.  (Please click here if you need a refresher on the number of states -- I promise, Britain, there are only 50!)

5. My newest celebrity crush is James Marsden.  As soon as I saw Hairspray, I was hooked.  I just (FINALLY) saw 27 Dresses the other day and yes, he's just perfection.  And he can sing.  I think its love!

I'm sure I'll have lots more to say, so keep visiting :)
